My journey into art began in the quiet, challenging spaces of early motherhood. As a single mother to my firstborn, Miguel, I turned to the canvas not just for survival, but as a vital lifeline for my mental health. During my battle with postnatal depression, art became my medicine a sanctuary where I could find my voice and my strength. Today, as I manage the daily realities of fibromyalgia, that same creative spark remains my cure. Art is my escapism and my focus; it is the quiet place where pain fades and peace begins. Every piece I create is infused with this healing energy, born from a journey of resilience and the belief that creativity is the ultimate path to sanity and soul.

For over a decade, I have embraced my passion for art, creating stunning and unique pieces that resonate with personal stories. My focus on afrocentric themes, wildlife, and portraits distinguishes my style. Utilizing upcycled canvases not only enhances my creativity but also promotes environmental sustainability. Each artwork is a journey, reflecting both the original background and the narrative I wish to convey.

My art is an embedded memory. Having grown up across eight African countries, my heart is forever drawn to the powerful, rich culture of the continent I call home. After a 20-year hiatus, I returned to the canvas as a form of therapy and discovery. Today, I create textured, vibrant pieces that allow people of colour to see their beauty and heritage reflected on their walls. From my studio in Norfolk, I am building a legacy for my two sons, proving that with passion, anything is possible.

I believe in the joy of creating something out of nothing. As the founder of Art By Cocopina, I blend my background in fashion and design with a deep love for African-inspired aesthetics. My work is known for its unique physical presence, using texture, mixed media, and genuine gold leaf to bring subjects to life.
